Our company seeks a full time developer with the ambition to be more than just a cog in a giant machine. This is not just an ordinary job and we are not an ordinary company. We hate the mundane and we avoid the boring, normal, and easy jobs because we aim to be at the forefront of Web 2.0 development.
The ideal developer is an avid learner who is excited about web application development and wants significant growth potential in a job. This person must be ready for a job that is hands-on, demanding, and deadline-focused, but that also fosters entrepreneurship, promises on-the-job training, and provides a work environment that allows developers the freedom to work however is most productive for them.
Our company is a rapidly growing team of international coders! We share a few things in common:
* We are passionate about development --> this is actually fun for us!
* We are all sponges for learning -- we love learning new technologies and are quite good at it.
* We are high-velocity people -- speed is everything, and we are quick problem solvers.
* We are agile developers -- we get that the old rules don't work anymore!
We are open to bringing on people who are in any country -- as long as they are good communicators and flexible with hours. This position will involve WORKING WITH A TEAM -- which means being online and available, and teaming up to solve hard problems.
Further, this is a full-time ongoing position -- not just one gig. So we are looking for the hourly rate you would charge if we brought you in for 160 hours a month, ongoing. We expect some type of discount over a regular fee, obviously. This is a JOB -- not just one consulting project. Which means it will be much more profitable for you. Consulting projects are uncertain and inconsistent. This is the opposite.
Please DO NOT apply unless you are interested in full-time work as an INDIVIDUAL being part of our team. (If you are representing a company, only apply if you are willing to dedicate us 1 individual full-time - who will interface with our team.)
Thanks!

Let's face it, good help is hard to find. But, we still keep crossing our fingers that the occasional Ruby ock star will grace us with his or her interest.
Like many startups, we think we're cool. Like many startups we're even making a little money. Unlike many startups, we're under no illusions about how hard what we're trying to pull off is. What we're doing hasn't been done in the United States before until now. This is going to be huge, or blow up in a grand and fiery burst of worthless stock options.
What you'll be doing:
-A lot of web apps programming for a non-public site.
Here's what we need from you:
-An open mind. Our product isn't sexy, but the work behind the scenes is.
-Ruby knowledge that kicks major butt. On Rails is even better!
-Be a damn good big picture thinker & number cruncher.
Here's what you'll get from us:
-Crazy people passionate about an important cause.
-An awesome line item on your resume.
-The opportunity to work with serial entrepreneurs. If you haven't started your own company yet and would some day like to, you can't pass this up.

About Us
--------
Backed by one of the most notable VC firms in the world, we are looking for an exceptional RoR developer to join our currently small & strong team.
We are a new and progressive venture in the healthcare
industry. Yet we have real revenue, real paying
customers, and are growing at an alarming rate. We
apply aggressive process analysis, develop
user-centered web applications and cutting edge IT
infrastructure to provide excellent customer service,
quality care, and seamless process integration for our
doctors and internal admin staff. We are a very small
team and intend to stay that way and maintain our
solid and fiscally responsible business model.
** We are revolutionizing healthcare and therefore NO
HEALTHCARE experience is needed! We want fresh
ideas from other industries. We want your
analytical approach and your innovative solutions.
If you care about the customer and care about
delivering great solutions then we want to meet
you. **
Proven successful management team hails from Stanford,
Princeton, Yale and has successful track record of
previous startups.
About You
---------
* Personality
You must be able to interact with our receptionists,
doctors, and nurse team in order to learn their
process, form open and direct relationships in order
to hear their day-to-day struggles and brainstorm
creative solutions. We know that "personality"
isn't a typical requirement of engineers --> but it
is in this case.
* Confident
Perhaps to the point of being a bit "pushy" with
your ideas. We want you to have convictions! We are
looking for someone that has a passion for doing
things right and making trade-off decisions among
various technical approaches. Must be comfortable to
debate and defend your positions and to push for
change.
* Passion for the customer
You should WANT to dig in and learn our business and
the complex processes that people in the healthcare
industry grapple with day-to-day. There are tons of
inefficient and manual process steps that we can
simplify (or eliminate) with clever web application
solutions thereby adding loads of value and
happiness in the process (we're already doing this!)
* Computer Science Degree
We understand that there are many people out there
today who "code", and that's great. With our small
team, we're looking for people who can hold their
own in terms of algorithm discussions, performance
optimizations, potential hardware trade-offs, etc.
For this reason, we're only interested in great
developers that also have a BS in Computer Science
or equivalent.
* Smart and hard working
Ready to take on responsibility and take action.
Team is not willing to push you. You'll be working
99% of the time without any supervision (just
guidance on priorities and technical collaboration).
The ideal candidate will come in, ask how they can
help, take on projects, and run with them.
* Ruby on Rails
This is a MUST HAVE. We're looking for someone who
can be our resident guru. We've brought together a
crack team of engineers from various other language
disciplines and specialties and we're programming in
RoR right now, but we want someone that can be our
resident expert and provide that resource so we
don't fritter around with things you already know
and can steer us accordingly. Even 2 years of
experience in RoR is adequate to meet "guru" in our
eyes if you've gone deep in it.
* Other stuff that would be great
Very strong Javascript background, CSS and DOM knowledge
jQuery, Prototype, Scriptaculous desired
Unix/Linux background (Ubuntu and Amazon EC2 experience a plus)
Strong DB/SQL skills, MySQL preferred
Work Environment & Team Dynamics
--------------------------------
* Location
A combination of working remotely (80%) and
in-office (20%). We generally meet physically 1 or 2
days per week at our office in downtown San
Francisco. Other than that we're using Skype, WebEx,
and IRC to sync up on the day's activities and
priorities and then it's back to IRC to get stuff
done. For this reason, we think that a minimum of 5
years of work experience is required --> otherwise
the remote work aspect may prove challenging.
* Small team
This is why it's essential that we find the right fit.
* High productivity
No red tape or bulky process --> heavy on results, light on process
Embrace TDD/BDD style of development with an eye for code refactoring
* Learn the business
Your first few days will be spent doing training
with our receptionists and doctors in one of our
clinics, learning the human processes we want to
automate and simplify. We want you to know our
business!
* Full stack
Our team "does it all" at this point. Web server
instances, database care, automated testing (rspec &
selenium), deploy scripts, etc. At some point as we
grow we'll specialize, but for now you can get great
exposure to a very broad set of responsibilities and
functions while you simultaneously bring your own
unique talents and specialties to the team.
* Technologies
We're using lots of the latest technologies: Ruby on
Rails, Memcached, EC2, S3, Prototype, Scriptaculous
If you meet the criteria --> give a holler
------------------------------------------
VERY IMPORTANT: Although we would love to hire this
person as soon as possible, we are not in a rush and we
are not desperate to hire the first person that comes
along. Our current operations are running just fine and
we're adding revenue customers every day. But we'd
love to accelerate even more projects that improve our
profitability and user happiness. Therefore, we can
take our time to look for the right person. Please only
apply if you meet the criteria. Startup energy and
interest is a must. We work hard, push each other and
have fun along the way. We'll use your answers to the
questions below to follow-up with phone screens. After
the phone screen there will be an onsite coding test
with one of your potential teammates (not HR) to
showcase your skills (should be a positive thing!)
1. What sounds great about this opportunity? Why are you interested?
(This helps us immediately weed out the desperate, shotgun blast people)
2. What’s the coolest project or technology you've worked on?
3. What are your 3 biggest strengths wrt what we're looking for?
4. Why are looking for a new opportunity?
5. Attach your resume
Thanks. We look forward to meeting you!

Most internet startups think they've got something really cool that people are gonna like. Some even claim they're the next big thing. Of course they can't really be objective and neither can we about our startup. The difference is that our claims are way bigger! We're going to change the world and revolutionize the social web, recommendation systems, and ultimately the internet and all of commerce. Unlikely? You bet. But don't you want to be a part of the excitement and ditch your boring job and your idiot boss?
We are looking for a few super-smart web application developers who want to be part of the revolution from the very start, joining a team of heroes out to change the world. Want more info? Visit our blog and show us how brave you are. No cape required.
You must have broad web development, systems and scaling skills and proven abilities - extra points for experience with Facebook apps, as we will be bootstrapping part of the growth on FB. You must be passionate, innovative and ready to join the next internet revolution at the very start. Note that we are currently looking for seed funding, so we don't expect full time commitment at this time - but we want to know who may be interested in joining the team when the time comes. And it should be soon. Email us at cognase.com, username is ben, with your CV and we can set a time to meet and tell you more about the revolution.
