I like to think I know my way around Visual Studio pretty well and use the keyboard for most things instead of the mouse.
However, Microsoft have recently published ‘cheat sheet’ posters detailing hundreds of keyboard shortcuts you can use in the Visual Studio IDE when developing in Visual Basic, C# and C++.
A lot [...]

As you may know, I’m a big fan of virtualisation and Microsoft’s Virtual PC. Well yesterday, Microsoft released the final version of Virtual PC 2007.
If you’ve got the right kit, it’s much faster than Virtual PC 2004. Do yourself a favour and upgrade. See my previous post on how to do that.
If [...]

I’m a huge fan of Lutz Roeder’s Reflector for .net.
If you’re a .net developer, you owe it to yourself to get to know Reflector. It’s one of the most useful tools around for digging into .net assemblies to find out what’s really going on under the covers. And it’s free.
Lutz has released a [...]

After applying for the Beta programme for Windows Home Server last week, I thought nothing more about it. I mean, I really wanted to get the beta and build me a Home Server, but after reading that more than 20,000 people had applied for the beta within 48 hours of it being announced, I [...]

I installed Windows Vista Ultimate over the weekend - an ordeal in itself including one hosed hard drive - and now I’m using it for my day-to-day work. On the whole, I like it.
Today however, I was forced to install Adobe (spit) Reader to look at some PDFs I’d been sent. [...]

I’m creating this blog post using an application called Post2Blog. I downloaded it yesterday - for free - from Giveaway of the Day.
Giveaway of the Day is great if you like free stuff (and who doesn’t?) Each day a shareware application - that you would normally have to pay for - is posted [...]

Check out www.vista.si.
The site is written in Slovenian (I think) so I don’t understand the written content, but the icons are easy enough to follow. Click the left-hand person icon. If you don’t already have WPF/E installed, you’ll be prompted to install it - a 1Mb download for the February 2007 CTP. [...]

In my previous post, I embedded a YouTube video of Bill Gates on The Daily Show punting Windows Vista. I got the code to embed the video file from the video’s page on YouTube.
However, when I then validated my index page using the W3C validator, (an excellent tool, by the way) the [...]

The Windows Vista PR juggernaut trundles onward - somehow Bill got a slot on The Daily Show!
It’s pretty funny, in parts:
Update: Ha ha - if you watch the video, you’ll notice that Bill just walks off end of the interview, kind of before he was supposed to. Apparently, this is what really [...]

So Microsoft Windows Vista goes on sale worldwide today/tomorrow (depending on where you are) and you’re thinking of upgrading. But you’re nervous that you don’t have all the Vista-compatible drivers you need for your kit. You’re not the only one.
Happily, some relief comes in the form of RadarSync’s VistaDrivers:

It’s a one-stop shop for [...]

Google are preparing to release a free tool called Google Website Optimizer, which enables you to test out different versions of your website landing page (say, your home page) to see which version produces the most conversions.
Google Website Optimizer is not open for business yet, but you can sign up for a beta invitation here:

When you first install Internet Explorer 7, you’re given the option to change the search engine that’s used by the search box in the IE7 toolbar.I don’t much like Microsoft’s Live Search, so I stick with Google - more specifically, I use Google UK. However, in order to do this, I must create a [...]

Even though I could install Vista Ultimate from the MSDN library, (and I’m kind of dying to) I haven’t yet. Mainly because I don’t want to repave my main dev machine (as I need it to do, y’know, work) and I’m nervous of just upgrading over XP.
I also have some funky hardware including two [...]

I was upgrading one of my virtual machines from Visual Studio 2005 trial edition to the full pukka version of VS 2005 Professional from the MSDN subscription.
I run the installer, it goes to work and even detects that the trial version is installed and prompts me to upgrade. ‘Great’, I thought, ‘Microsoft has it’s [...]
