Any BDA (Broadcast Driver) advice?

The Code Project Latest Articles From The Code Project Latest Articles, 4 months ago, 0 comments Comment

I want to write a fairly straightforward application which needs to be able to tune an input device (DVB-T or DVB-S) and capture the stream, no filtering. Any links/suggestions? Microsoft's information on this is (shock) pretty poor. Elaine

Exam papers with answers on the back!

A new and interesting technique in examination and grading[^] Of course, if the uptake of the Music GCSE is anything like it was when I was at school, then the three children - nationwide - who took it will be smiling smugly to themselves. Ah Music lessons, what a complete and utter waste of time they were. For 50 minutes every week, up until the age of 14~, my entire Form would assemble in the "Music Lab" and await the arrival of the dotty old bat, who was extremely near-sighted and practically stone-deaf. Once she'd arrived and told us to be seated (she was the only teacher in the entire school to do this), we immediately had to get up and get the Glockenspiels out. What followed was 30 minutes of the most horrendous "bing, bing, bing, bing" as 25 or so children faffed about doing bugger all - I was particularly proud of one of my compositions, which went, "Bing, bing, bing, bing, bing, bung, bung, bung, bung, bung, bong, bing, bing, bing, bing, bung, bung, bung, bung, bung, bong, bong, bong, bong, bong, bung, bing". After that, we spent the next 20 minutes gathered around the piano mouthing the words to the song we were supposed to be singing. The poor deaf bat clearly didn't know this is what we were up to because as she bashed out the tune on the aging piano, she kept muttering encouraging things like, "Excellent" and "Hold that note" to our imagined singing. Of all the things we could, or should, have learnt (history of music, how to read music, influence of music in modern culture, how to play an instrument, how to sing etc. etc.) why on earth they thought a weekly dose of Glockenspiel and a good 20 minutes of virtual singing was a productive use of time is beyond me. Golden days.

Or has MSDN just had a little face lift? Basically a new red banner. The question is, will it now remember my language settings (UK-EN) and filter (C#)? I'm not holding my breath about that one. [edit] The answer would be a no, it's already reverted to US-EN. Guess the latter is a matter of time. [/edit]

First Bike Prang in Twenty Years

The Code Project Latest Articles From The Code Project Latest Articles, 4 months ago, 0 comments Comment

Well, most of those years I drove car, but my last bike prang was in 1987. So, as I approach a main intersection, the light is screen, and there is a dumb chick in a Smart Car, going the opposite direction, waiting to turn right1, across in front of me.  I'm very weary of situations like this, so I watch her carefully.  She doesn't move, and as I'm the only oncoming vehicle at all, cloaked in a luminous yellow safety bib, I proceed.  As I am about three metres away from her, she lurches out in from of me, relieving my brakes of their normal duty and brining be to very sudden stop against the side of her car, almost bending my front wheel perpendicular to the back wheel.  Very apologetic 'n all, gave me her dad's name and number for the insurance etc. but he's an Indian fella, and probably the bargaining type, so maybe I can knock the price down to a grand or two, basically as an apology, and bend the forks straight myself. 1 Left hand drive drivers can transform the situation.

VS 2008 WTF [modified]

The Code Project Latest Articles From The Code Project Latest Articles, 4 months ago, 0 comments Comment

OK, I'm bitten by this problem: Clickety[^] * Fun is, none of the potential fixes[^] will install, even though the installed DLL in question is older than the one supposedly provided by the fix. As all other VS2008 updates, it says that none of the products thsi updates is relevant for are installed. OK, I have here a VS2008 eval version running a Vista virtual machine (preconfigured DL from MS) running on Virtual Server. So it's all Microsoft thechnologies that fail to connect, or at least provide reasonable diagnostics. Add to that the useless connect download side, yet another "file transfer manager" that doesn't even allow to create the folder to download to, and connects "Search" box going to a MS Live search showing me ads for the product that's not working. If I was MS chairman for a day, I'd first kill the Silverlight guys. Just to make my point absolutely clear - and leave people wondering, what my point is. -------- *) Problem occurs every time as follow up to various "input file not found" compile errors. Solution: - exit Visual Studio - rebuild Fisher Price Toy Compile, no doubt.

Flag pictures?

The Code Project Latest Articles From The Code Project Latest Articles, 4 months ago, 0 comments Comment

Hello all, I need to find a good resource of flags... I hate to use them in my projects, but in order to make it easy for changing the current language I need them. Good resolution would be great. Do you know of a good place to retrieve them? Of course free would be great. As always, thank you in advance. PS: I've googled for them, but at the page 26 of the possible results I've abandoned... all of them were horrible in terms of resolution and/or scanned.

Big WTF from VS 05

The Code Project Latest Articles From The Code Project Latest Articles, 4 months ago, 0 comments Comment

I imported a dll written in VB.NET into a C# application. When I debug the C# application I can step into the dll and see all the code and comments. The dll was compiled from this article's source code http://www.codeproject.com/KB/IP/FtpClient.aspx[^]. Then I created a new C# application to use it and test it's functionality. If I set a breakpoint where a function from the dll in called and press F11, a new file called Class1.vb appears in VS and I can run the VB.NET code in it step-by-step! Somehow VS knows that the imported dll comes from the previous Class Library project and allows me to step into it. BUT HOW CAN THIS BE??? Has my Visual Studio just become self-aware?

Chumpions League Arf arf arf - shame eh As a neutral I didn't mind who won - until the prospect of Chelsea winning was about to come true and that filled me with horror. Looks like Roman will have to dig deeper into those transfer-fee distorting pockets of his and hire a groundsman who can stop grass from slipping under the penalty taker's feet.

Three 18+ hoodlums were seen in my backyard with a baseball in the middle of the night (they ran when seen) and the word on the street is they are going to bust me and my car up. I am at a rental property for one of my contracts in the middle of nowhere. While I am not afraid, I am definitely concerned for my welfare. I wonder what they will think of my security system, Smith, Wesson, and Doberman?

asp.net and vs2008...

The Code Project Latest Articles From The Code Project Latest Articles, 4 months ago, 0 comments Comment

ok this is gonna sound like im really bashing the products but im really not ... im trying to do a project with them for the first time and im struggling to understand how its all supposed to work first of all vs2008 is slow as molasses to the point of being almost unusable ... trying to build the simplest web page is so convoluted i almost cant quite believe it ... is it really so complex? why? i have a dual core machine with a 7200 200gb hdd and 2gb ram with a good nvidia video card ... this is really how one builds web sites with asp.net or is there a simpler way? (please tell me there is an easier way!!) again im not bashing the products im genuinely asking if it really has to be so cumbersome

WGA

The Code Project Latest Articles From The Code Project Latest Articles, 4 months ago, 0 comments Comment

I have a fully licensed copy of Windows XP. As such I always refused the WGA automatic update. I mean, where is the advantage for me, I know my copy is legit? So of course, every time I boot Windows prompts to do the update. I click no and also select the option to say don't ask again. Yet still it always pops up. Well I suppose MS was tired of optional piracy and decided to do the update without my permission. So now I have WGA . I think I am just going to disable Automatic updates as well as that darn port.

Fun With Windows Activation

The Code Project Latest Articles From The Code Project Latest Articles, 4 months ago, 0 comments Comment

Reinstalling a computer for a customer, XP installed and asking if I'd like to activate Windows. SO I click on the lets do it button and after checking for a few seconds tells me it can't access the activation center. If I look in Device Manager I can see the network adapter. If I check for a valid IP Address I have one and if I open Internet Explorer I can travel around the web with no problems. But no matter what, I can't activate the bloody thing. I know I can phone up Raj in Punjab and get the thing activated but I have to punch in a million numbers on the phone and I can't be arsed. Anyone got any idea what could be causing this to happen.
