OCD Naming Strikes Again [modified]

The Code Project Latest Articles From The Code Project Latest Articles, 7 months ago, 0 comments Comment

It's 23h55, I have just got a large solution transferred from work to home, had to VPN back to my work machine for a forgotten file, and am finally set up and ready for a major overhaul of one of the export agents formatting for my generic export engine. What's the first thing I do? Spend fifteen minutes contemplating whether calling a property that is a collection of LayoutField objects, that define the format of an ExportRecord, should be named RecordDefinition, or LayoutColumns. I chose the latter, requiring a code change, but reducing the chances of 'naming paralysis' later on. I hope I can ignore other names just for tonight, just for my 15h00 demo tomorrow.

Wouldn't it be better if CP could use SSO for .NET/Java/LAMP sections..?

presentations and IT

so ha, this project is not ready...it is an account change process. pretty simple...however, the "walk through" meeting is today where we go over the form and structure and if it is basically going to work or not. well IT is still piecing there part together, but that does not leave me enough time to piece my part together (meeting in an hour, of course) Well I just built 5 static pages that have fake results on them, including a page that looks like it has errors...it's really pretty kewl. good thing im running the presentation and can do the clicking and typing. I have really topped women now, Im faking it in a meeting anyone else had to fake it?

In the project I am working at the moment it is required to have some Picture adquisition and comparing for a quality test before releasing the product at the end of a new production line. The cameras are to be plugged into the USB. I connect one camera and all ok. "New hardware found" message, asking for drivers, etc. Programm made and loaded... Outputs not coming, ok electrical problem. One of the technicians of the other firm start to take measures, to play with the cables and so on... A bit later, he says me "I found nothing wrong", no need to say that the outputs of the camera where still not coming. But the good thing is: Yesterday I connect the second camera to the (quite old and crappy) laptop I was using while I configure the new one (I got it last week), laptop switch off and never started up again. Last night till 3:30 am to install and configure needed software in the new laptop that was missing. Today at 8 am there another time, I connect the camera that still needs to be configured... My USB port in the new laptop died, now no Mouse, no USB-Sticks, no external HD... And the consecuent conversation with my boss... "mmm, sorry, but... the new laptop is broken as well" and all this in my 9th week working in the firm. I don't know if I should cut my vens or let them grow. Luckily Laptops of the firm have gold-warranty but... damm... what a two days At least tomorrow is free here in germany so I will get a rest and hope the bad luck period is away when I return on Friday. The best of all... the cameras are not going to be used in the production line when the clients switch it on, they just want to have it there "if they want to use it" Well, have a nice day (for sure it will be better than mine).

What to do when anti-virus doesn't solve it?

The Code Project Latest Articles From The Code Project Latest Articles, 7 months ago, 0 comments Comment

Hi guys, A close friend of mine was having some problems with his computer. I used the free TeamViewer[^] to remotely look at his desktop and it was pretty ugly: if you opened an Explorer window (Windows Explorer, not IE), it would disappear after about 5 seconds. And his task bar would disappear after 5 seconds, only to have Windows start it up again, resulting in a disappearing-then-appearing infinite loop. I first thought malware, so I had him run the free Spybot Search and Destroy. It found some things, cleaned them all. Yet the problem remained. I had him run Windows Update and download all the latest updates. Found 50 some updates. Installed them, still problems. At this point, I'm thinking virus, so I have him run free AVG anti-virus[^]. It finds several viruses. We clean them, still problems. I have him run the free online scanner, HouseCall Antivirus[^]. It finds viruses. We clean them, still problems. What else can we do to solve this problem, short of wiping the drive?

Microsoft admits abject failure

How embarassing for them: Microsoft offers cash back search[^] There's something seriously going wrong over at Microsoft these days, they've lost what little remaining mojo they had. I see a break up in their future into separate divisions, they've gotten too big to have even a shred of innovation left.

OneNote: WINDOWS + N Does Nothing

On Saturday, during an install, I shut down an application that hinted at being a quick start or something for OneNote. Now, pressing WINDOWS + N just gives me an N where I'm typing, no OneNote. Anyone else had this?

I am was writing a code to drag drop picturebox on the panel. I had all the events in place but it was not just happening. After 30mins of useless debugging I checked AllowDrop property of panel and it was "FALSE". Damn...it should have been the first thing to do and I didnt did that. Wasted 30 min Seems it's a long way for me to become a programmer.

Anyone know a good place to review (or learn ) geometry, trig, etc... It's been a while and I want to relearn the stuff. Preferably starting from basics all the way up to grad level.

Dumb ads

So I'm seeing an ad that looks like a dialog box but is actually an image. You know, the one that takes you to the sponsor's page no matter where you click on it. It asks, "Do you want to miss your chance to live and work in the USA?" The Yes button is highlighted.
Cheers, Vikram.

My company just installed MS Office 2007 in all the PCs. In Outlook 2007 you can read RSS feeds - this one is the coolest feature till now I discovered in 07. Kudos to all MS guyz.
