The Internet security solution for Macintosh
All Macs connected to the Internet (DSL, cable modem, etc.) are exposed to hackers, vandals and other security risks. Experts estimate that between 85% and 97% of intrusions are never detected.
Intego NetBarrier X5 is the Internet security solution for Macintosh computers running Mac OS X. It offers thorough protection against intrusions coming across the Internet or a local network.
NetBarrier X5 gives you an overview of all its powerful functions, and lets you customize its protection simply and easily. With Firewall, Antivandal, Privacy and Monitoring features, NetBarrier X4 is the only program that protects your Mac from all the dangers of the Internet.
NetBarrier X5’s default settings are perfect for most users, and the program’s custom firewall rules, antivandal protection settings, anti-spyware application blocking, filters and monitoring tools make it the ultimate tools for network administrators as well.

Intego NetBarrier X5 protects your computer from intrusions by constantly filtering all the activity that enters and leaves through the Internet or a network. Intego NetBarrier X4 protects you from thieves, hackers and intruders, and warns you automatically if any suspicious activity occurs.

Personal Firewall
Intego NetBarrier X5 contains a personal firewall that filters data as it enters and leaves your computer. A full set of basic filtering rules is used by default, and its Customized protection mode allows you to create your own rules, if you need to.

Antivandal
Intego NetBarrier X5’s Antivandal is a powerful guardian for your computer. It watches over your computer’s network activity, looking for signs of intrusion, and, if it detects anything, stops the intruder in their tracks and sends you an alert. The Antivandal has another powerful function, the Stop List, that records the address of any intruder who attempts to get into your computer, and ensures that they cannot come back. Several options allow you to choose the type of protection you have on your computer. The Antispyware function lets you choose which applications to trust and how to handle unknown applications.
Privacy Protection
Intego NetBarrier X5 helps protect your privacy. It filters data to ensure that no sensitive information leaves your computer, blocks ad banners and lets you manage cookies, deleting them whenever you want. It can clean your browser’s cache and history files. And it has a unique feature that hides information about your computer: its platform, which browser you are using, and the last web page you visited.
Data Filter
Intego NetBarrier X5 has a unique function that protects you and your information: its Data Filter ensures that any sensitive information you choose to protect cannot leave your computer and go onto a network. You decide what to protect, such as your credit card number, passwords, or key words that appear in sensitive documents, and Intego NetBarrier X5’s Data Filter checks each outgoing packet to make sure that no documents containing this information are sent. Not only does this protect you from accidentally sending documents containing this information, it also prevents anyone who has network access to your computer from taking copies of them.

Monitoring
Intego NetBarrier X5 contains powerful tools for monitoring your network activity and usage. Its activity gauges show your network traffic in real time, and its additional monitoring functions give you essential information on your computer, its network, and the services and connections that are active.
Intego NetBarrier X5 even offers a monitoring screen saver, so you can always keep an eye on your network traffic.
System Requirements: Mac OSX 10.4 or later. And 40 MB free hard disk space.

Why would anyone actually pay for this when they can do almost all of this with odd little bits from sourceforge which you can easily gtar and blah blah terminal blah sudo blah …
Just predicting the next post on here.
I’m actually hoping to read from a previous satisfied customer of NetBarrier. VersionTracker has some pretty harsh comments about kernel panics and very slow shutdown times… what are your experiences with it?

Avoid this company at all costs!
The software is good and I look forward to the day they are purchased by another company, but for now, they are the most unethical company out there.
I purchased this software long ago and within less than 30 days they came out with an upgrade and they wanted to charge me full price less 10 or 20 dollars for the upgrade.
They have the worst upgrade police in computer software history.
They rely on first time buyers only and not on repeat business.
If you do decide to purchase it, realize you will not get treated fairly.

Yikes! Anyone else have a different experience with them, and with this particular product?

I have this product. I purchased it through Intego with their Internet Security Bundle (much better value… I feel their individual prices are quite high).
Couple of points I want to make (obviously just my opinion) :
1. I find their products to be top quality and not worthy of the negative comments from VersionTracker or MacUpdate. Most of the gripes center around their subscription model. For me (having NetBarrier, VirusBarrier, and Personal Antispam), two years of updates will cost me $48 ($60 normally, I get an academic discount). Either way, I feel it is worth it for 2-3 dollars a month.
2. As for their upgrade policy, I cannot give an opinion. Perhaps Fred is correct. I have used their customer support by phone (to verify academic eligibility and for questions), with no problems.
3. The picts above are old (NetBarrier X4). The current version is X5.
4. Lastly, regarding this product, NetBarrier X5, I have had no problems with it at all, and I am running the latest version of Leopard.
Hope that helps.

@Rees Maxwell,
I’m a happy FORMER user of NetBarrier
I have not used it in years, customer support was awful, then it improved, then it was bad again. I don’t know about their current support.
I do find Intego’s products overpriced, even with Zot’s discount.
Back in the OS 9 days and/or early OS X, I had NetBarrier, VirusBarrier, and Personal Backup.
NetBarrier was the only one that was worth it.
If the bundle was $41.95, I would consider making a purchase, but still chances are that I would pass.

I’m very disappointed with this one.
At their web site, 1 full license shows as only $49.95, which would make a less than 20% discount. Unless there is something I am missing.
Down at around $30 I think this might be a good buy.

Sorry Rees. Wish I could be the person you’re looking for but I’ve found them to be terrible and stopped buying their stuff ages ago. Another indicator of how bad they are - They don’t really seem to dispute it. At least, I’ve never seen active efforts to counter their reputation in the marketplace…

@gryphonent
Some description of your personal experience would be helpful.

Ok so looking at the Intego web page, the buy part of it specifically, there this product lists for 49.95. So what is the point of this Zot?
8 bucks is 8 bucks but for this?

Had no problems with this software.
The firewall is very effective, it blocks all incoming connections if you want to.

You’ve probably noticed we updated the offer by now!
We had a mixup on the price, version, etc…
Thanks.

Thanks for all your comments folks. There are enough negative ones that I think I’ll shy away from it this time, and hope to see the devs work hard to rebuild their reputation. (Hint to devs: coming on here and making comments that address user’s issues can really assist your case. Often times I’ve purchased software specifically because I was on the fence until a dev came on and answered Q’s. Certainly, staying away just makes things worse.)

I second that, Rees.
