Flux

Flux from The Escapers is a XHTML & CSS design tool featuring an amazing array of features for an unbelievable price. Flux supports advanced CSS editing, and unlike simpler tools, also permits PHP, JSP, Ruby on Rails and JavaScript to be included in your pages. Since our last offer on MacZOT we’ve added Yuma support, a built in wizard for tools such as jQuery and Adobe’s Spry and a load of other new features.

In the press…

Flux was reviewed in IT-Enquirer.com, not only did it garner a 5/5 score, but also comments like this one:

“My experiences with this application are so promising that I think Flux is nothing short of web designer’s gold.” - Erik Vlietinck

Check out the review for yourself here.

We’re building a community of enthusiastic users

Not only have we established a growing user forum, Flux has attracted comments such as

“The developers have proven to be so responsive, I’ve went ahead & purchased Flux with no reservations. I’m amazed at how powerful and flexible this program is!” - Ace Erickson

Flux makes making valid XHTML simple

The web is moving towards valid and “semantic” XHTML, Flux takes care of the complexity for you, if you don’t know what “XML entities” are, don’t worry, Flux makes it a non-issue. It’s the same for CSS, Flux let’s you change fonts, colours and other styles through a familiar Mac interface.

Flux gets updated… a lot!

The Escapers is committed to providing continual updates to Flux, providing user-requested tweaks and features, as well as major upgrades. We have never charged for a version upgrade, and don’t intend to for a long time. We believe it’s far more important to build a base of happy users than to “nickel and dime” them for every little upgrade.

We pride ourselves on quickly meeting the needs of our customer base, so if you’re a disillusioned GoLive user, and don’t want to move to DreamWeaver, why not use this opportunity to try out something new at a sensational price? We think you’ll appreciate working with a company dedicated to it’s product, it’s customers, and the Mac.

The Escapers… Completely Mac focused

The Escapers is dedicated to the Mac, we’ve been Mac users since the 68k days, Flux is Mac-only, and always will be!

System requirements
Flux is a Universal application, we recommend either a PowerPC G5 or any Intel Mac, with at least 1GB of RAM.

The Escapers are based in London, UK, when we’re not almost getting run down by black cabs, we’re running up the apples and pears to get to our offices to work on Flux and other Mac goodies.

Please note that the pricing is converted from UK pounds sterling, and may be slightly inaccurate at the time of publishing. The full retail price of Flux is £40 GBP.

    Are there any video tutorials for starting with this app?

    Doesn’t seem too well received over on VersionTracker by most users.

    @adwade,

    Please take a look at the month that was posted and note that there have been twelve revisions after said post. I purchased a license here when MacZOT last ran Flux and have been happy. The key to satisfaction is whether the developer is actively bettering the product of which they are in this case; I can’t say that about many apps I have licensed as most are becoming one-hit wonders and little else.

    Also, checkout their forum.

    Flux is an interesting application. It’s taken me some time to get used to the way it does things — I was used to having to hand-code or hand-correct everything. I’ve even used it to find the errors on pages that I had created awhile back in other apps. I wouldn’t mind having more templates available but I haven’t found anything that I couldn’t get done in Flux.

    This is a great price, too.

    The developers are certainly aggressive about updates and honest about what they are fixing. The early versions were a bit buggy but the current versions have been fine for me.

    Did not like this app at all. It is such a different way of doing things from traditional web apps that it takes quite a bit to get used to. Of course that can be a good thing if you are not the traditional type of developer. Be careful when you preview your site using your home folder as it overwrites your index.html page without a warning, nice. Sorry but even at 50% off this is not my cup of tea…

    Oh and did I mention it is slow as molasses on a MacBook 2.0Ghz core duo with 2GB RAM? Scrolling the page design is pokey at best and it occasionally spikes up the CPU usage causing fans to blast… Double negative for me…

    @F451

    Yes and 12 revisions later there are still no overwhelmingly positive reviews/posts about it on the VersionTracker LINK I posted above.

    It sounds like they’re making progress with the program, but w/o any positive feedback from random users…not sure it’s ready for prime-time yet.

    Hey everyone, thanks for the comments about Flux, positive and negative. I’ll do my best here to address some concerns.

    As has been stated, we update Flux a lot, and we’ll hold our hands up and say that in the early days it was pretty unreliable, which is why we first shipped it as a beta. It’s much more stable now though.

    Speed - Yes, Flux can be slow, which is why we’re doing most of our work right now on Core Animation, this means that if we can get that working as we want, then it goes a lot, lot faster.

    We totally appreciate that Flux is an ongoing work which is not perfect (yet), but we do update Flux very frequently, and unlike some larger companies making similar products, if you mail us wanting a feature, you’ll get a real human replying. Also, we have never charged for an update.

    All the best..
