Help improve Rails documentation on Git branch

Posted by David May 02, 2008 @ 05:32 PM

Pratik’s documentation branch for Rails has moved to http://github.com/lifo/docrails. This branch is open for all to contribute to directly. Just send Pratik a note on Github asking for access and it shall be granted. There’s even a page for the conventions used on the branch.

This makes it easier than ever to help improve the documentation for Rails and harder than ever to just sit back and whine about it. Make something great!

Does this have any connection to the Rails Documentation Project that kind of fell off the map last year?

I remember them asking for donations, but then not much since.

It doesn’t seem so, Bill. The “Rails Documentation Project” was a project of Jeremy McAnally’s.

Given that this post seems like official support from DHH for one of the many Rails documentation efforts, it might clear things up a bit. One of the arguments is that there are too many varying ways to contribute, but the official sanction of Pratik’s route might help it become more popular.

All we really care about is results. Pratik’s branch have already been merged back into trunk a good few times with lots of improvements. It didn’t even require funding.

I also recall the donation drive for documentation. There was easily over $15,000 raised. I’m curious to know where that money went.

personally my biggest problem with GIT is the non support with Netbeans 6.1. Netbeans is a major IDE I would think for Rails and it seems that the switch to GIT was made without planning and working with IDEs to support it…

Stephane, your biggest problem is you don’t know where to lay blame. Might I suggest you open a request ticket at Netbeans.org…I’m guessing by your inane comment, you lack the ability to code your own plugin.

I have the same issue as Stephane. Been looking around here for answers…
