Ruby On Rails Developers (All Levels)

As a Ruby On Rails developer at AlphaSights Ltd you will play a key role in developing an innovative web based system from the ground up in a fun and rewarding start-up environment.  You will have the opportunity to get involved with the design process early on and help mould our product to become a market leader.  You will have a good background in web based programming with a passion for Ruby and a flair for robust, clean coding.  You will have a keen interest in agile development processes and be a strong, communicative team player.


Your responsibilities include:

  • Ruby on Rails software development
  • Mentoring other developers, passing on your valuable experience.
  • Reviewing and auditing code.
  • Database schema design
  • Object oriented design
  • Front-end web development using JavaScript, XHTML and CSS


Required Skills:

  • Demonstrable track record developing substantial web application in Ruby on Rails or similar framework.
  • Strong understanding of good code design principals such as DRY and thin controller/fat model
  • Understand the key factors in making code secure.
  • Testing using Rspec, Shoulda or similar
  • Experience in MySQL, Capistrano, Migrations, XHTML, CSS, JQuery/PrototypeJS and RJS
  • Good working knowledge of unix-like environments such as MacOS and Linux.


Desired Skills:

  • Open source participation
  • A background in modelling complex data and data analysis
  • Experience using solr and acts_as_solr
  • Experience administering Apache and Monit.
  • Knowledge and experience of using development approaches laid out in books like “The Pragmatic Programmer” and 37signals “Getting Real”.
