Girlguiding UK selects Immediacy CMS
UK – 20 August 2008 – Alterian (LSE: ALN), Europe's
leading content management solution author and a leading
international provider of integrated marketing
platforms, today announced that Girlguiding UK – the
largest youth organisation for girls in the UK – is changing the
way it communicates with its 500,000 membership with the help of a
new online strategy from Fusion Workshop, an Immediacy
Gold Partner.
"For a youth organisation like ours, online presence is so
important," explains Aimee Lingman, Digital Strategic Manager,
Girlguiding UK. "But with multiple content-rich sites, even
straightforward maintenance is a drain on resources. We want
to free up the web team to allow them to focus on quality and real
added value, not just the basics. In the lead-up to our
centenary year in 2010, this is an important strategic step for
us."
Fusion Workshop is already working on the project using
Immediacy Content Management System (CMS). When it is
complete, Girlguiding UK will be able to share content between
sites automatically, manage micro-sites alongside the main
membership, public and youth sites, run blogs and message boards
and manage content and distribution of its e-newsletters. The
sites will each have their own branding and search options, and
will all be fully compliant with the latest guidelines on
accessibility and security.
"We chose Fusion Workshop as our web partners for the depth of
experience they bring to the project," says Lingman "And we
chose Immediacy because, after a detailed evaluation of the
options, we found it to be the only CMS that could do everything we
needed straight out of the box."
Consultant Andrew Lambert of MCL helped Girlguiding UK create
and manage the evaluation process that resulted in the appointment
of Fusion Workshop and Immediacy. "Basic requirements
were that the new web sites had to meet certain standards on
workflow, usability, functionality and 'developability' for the
future," says Lambert. "Plus, the chosen web partner had to
be a good fit with the organisation in terms of its customer care
and quality standards."
Girlguiding UK had a relatively advanced bespoke CMS in place,
and the organisation had invested in content-rich web sites as an
efficient way of making information available widely.
"But the world moves fast online, and to keep such sites up to
date in line with member expectations of functionality and
usability is a huge challenge," says Chris Short, Fusion Workshop's
Managing Director.
There were new rules on accessibility, and a pressing need to
integrate the membership database with the online resource in order
to manage communications more efficiently.
"The answer lies in getting the supporting technology right,"
says Short. "Immediacy will provide a future-proof platform
to support bespoke data integration, as well as all compliance and
membership management needs. In the long run the new approach
will save Girlguiding UK about two thirds of its maintenance and
communication budget."
The project is planned for completion by the second quarter of
2009. It will be carried out in phases such that the in-house
team will be able to gradually migrate content across to the new
CMS, starting with the main membership site.
Aimee Lingman again: "This web project will allow us to
keep on improving the way we talk to our members and supporters of
all ages. It is about building and maintaining a sustainable
online presence."
